Discovering two local islands in the Vaavu Atoll

8 days

The Maldives have changed over the years and luxurious private islands are no longer the only option. Today it is possible to offer an alternative accommodation to eco-conscious travelers who wish to discover the traditional lifestyle and the wonderful underwater world of the Maldives, without giving up the quality standards typical of beach resorts. In this unique tour designed by Conscious Journeys, you will have the opportunity to discover two of the most beautiful local (inhabited) islands in the Maldives, located in the Vaavu Atoll.
Fulidhoo is a small island in the Vaavu Atoll of the Maldives. It remains relatively untouched and less crowded compared to the larger tourist destinations. Fulidhoo is famous for its white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters and a coral reef rich in marine life, making it perfect for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. The island is inhabited by a fishing community, which makes staying in Fulidhoo an even more authentic and unconventional experience compared to other Maldivian destinations. Fulidhoo offers several attractions: Fulidhoo Beach, a stunning stretch of white sand that provides the perfect setting for relaxing, sunbathing and swimming; Manta Point, an ideal spot to admire manta rays gliding through the clear Maldivian waters as they filter the water through their gills, creating a truly spectacular sight; and night fishing, one of the most popular activities in the Maldives, where with a boat and a local guide you set out in search of squid and nocturnal fish—an enjoyable and unique experience, especially as you can taste the freshly caught seafood. These are just some of the attractions Fulidhoo has to offer. The island’s natural beauty and the variety of activities available make it a perfect destination for an unforgettable holiday.
Thinadhoo has an official population of only 50 people and most of the island is developed for tourism. The hotel area together with a small village occupies about one third of the island; on the other side there is tropical vegetation and a beautiful 500-meter-long beach. The hotels and guesthouses of Thinadhoo pay great attention to service quality and to the cleanliness of both the beach and the island itself. Thinadhoo boasts a rich and beautiful coral reef where you can see a variety of colorful tropical fish, as well as sea turtles and rays. Several uninhabited islands and sandbanks are located nearby. Compared to many other islands, Thinadhoo’s tourist beach is quite long (about 500 meters). Sunbeds, umbrellas and hammocks are provided for guests. In Thinadhoo you can enjoy numerous activities, including Maldivian fishing, snorkeling, diving, water sports and other excursions to both inhabited and uninhabited islands, as well as trips to sandbanks. Thinadhoo is the ideal place for families with children, romantic couples and those who love private, comfortable and peaceful retreats.

BEFORE YOU GO – USEFUL ADVICE

It is recommended to behave in a way that respects the local culture in order to avoid any problems or difficulties during the trip. In particular, public displays of affection such as kissing or hugging are discouraged, as this attitude is not well regarded. It is advisable to bring practical and informal summer clothing, without forgetting a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and sneakers. Dress code rules must be followed: both during the day and at night it is not permitted to enter bars or restaurants wearing swimwear or wet clothes, and guests are required to wear at least a T-shirt in these areas. In the evening and after dinner, bermuda shorts and wrap skirts are appropriate. Walking barefoot throughout the hotel is allowed. Nudity is strictly forbidden.
India’s time zone is GMT/UTC +5, so jet lag may cause some discomfort. Setting your watch to local time before arrival may be helpful, as well as eating and sleeping according to local time. To make the most of daylight hours, the resort operates one hour ahead of Malé time.
Children are more than welcome, but parents are required to supervise them in order to avoid situations that could disturb the tranquility and atmosphere typical of the resort. In general, it is advisable to avoid situations or activities that may have dangerous consequences. Children aged 8 and above can participate in the PADI “bubble maker” course; from the age of 10 they can obtain a “Junior Open Water Diver” license.
It is strictly forbidden to import spear guns; sacred images or statues; pork or cured meats; alcohol of any kind; pornographic magazines; videos and DVDs (except unused DVDs still in their original packaging). It is not permitted to bring pets of any kind. Very severe penalties apply to the importation and use of drugs. It is also strictly forbidden to export turtle shells, corals or shells not regularly purchased in shops. Out of respect for the environment, breaking or walking on coral is prohibited. Although coral reefs look like rocks, they are actually composed of millions of living organisms: even the touch of a fin may be enough to destroy work that nature has taken many years to create. Some coral species can cause cuts or swelling. For the safety of divers and the reef, it is advisable not to stand, walk or swim too close to it. Maldivian law prohibits collecting corals, shells or sand. The government is very strict in this regard and ignoring these rules may result in fines. The use of alcohol is not permitted on local islands.
Furthermore, guests are kindly requested to collect their own waste, such as empty bottles, used batteries, etc., which may harm the environment.

    Why don’t we include flights?
First of all, because we are a local tour operator and we directly organize all ground services during your trip. Secondly, because airfares change continuously, and the earlier you book, the less you pay. To include flights, we would need to calculate a “prudential” cost that would increase the total price of your travel package, preventing you from getting the best airfare available at the time of booking. For this reason, we prefer to leave you free to access the best conditions available when you book.
However, upon request, we can recommend the most convenient option so you can book your flight independently.

Have you already booked your flights? (required)

A travel agency we trust can hold your flights for around 48 hours, within which they must be confirmed. To do so, we need the first name, last name, and date of birth of all participants.
